Pastor Thurman Hargrove was ordained in 1966 under the mentorship of the late Honorable Bishop Robert Purnell at Refuge Temple in Richmond, Virginia. He started a mission in 1966 in Alberta, Virginia and in 1971 founded Refuge Church in Alberta Virginia. He was appointed as a District Elder in 1976 in the Virginia Southern Diocese under the late Honorable Bishop Floyd Hill, Sr. Pastor Hargrove was appointed by the Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Incorporated as a Bishop in 1988. He was appointed over the Virginia Western Diocese. Bishop Hargrove was the Pastor and Founder of Refuge Temple, 14330 Boydton Plank RD. Warfield, VA 23889, Refuge Temple, 921 Palmetto St., P.O.Box 6051 Roanoke, VA 24017 & Pastored Waterway Temple, 10 Waterway Circle P.O. Box 149 Bassett, VA 24055. The Diocese started with two churches and a mission twenty five years ago. Currently, the Diocese has 16 churches that span over 300 square miles from Rocky Mount to Richmond, Virginia.

BIRDDIE HARGROVE
Mother Birddie Hargrove is an outstanding individual. She moved to Alberta, VA with her husband in 1968.
After moving to Alberta, she became employed as a factory worker at Dixon Dress Company. After many years, Dixon closed leaving her without a job. With much encouragement from Pastor Hargrove, she went back to school and received her GED. Afterwhich, she enrolled at Saint Paul's College. She and her eldest son were students there at the same time.
As a full-time student and a full-time mom, she became very ill. Because of the will to see her graduate, the family pitched in. God healed her body miraculously and she was able to complete college. Not only did she graduate, but she graduated Cum Laude, an achievement that none of her children accomplished.
Not only is she a model mom, but Mother Hargrove is known for her beautiful smile, the tactful way she deals with situations and her ability to teach God's Word. Not only does she teach vocally, but she teaches by example. She strives to follow the will of God and the vision that has been set forth by her husband, Bishop Hargrove. She has a great love for her family and the church.
The works of our Church Mother
Mother Hargrove has served faithfully in many capacities, both secular and religious. In the religious area, she has served in her local church and in the state. She served as state secretary, state missionary president, to name a few. She is currently serving as the Virginia Western Diocese missionary President. In the secular area, she is a member of the NEA, VEA, BEA, the Optimist Club, and the list goes on.
